The Blood Emergency Readiness Corps (BERC) was founded in 2021 as a partnership by a group of blood centers who joined together to keep the blood supply stocked during emergencies when blood needs are high, such as during a mass‐casualty event or natural disaster. ImpactLife will reinstate more than 5000 potential donors who were previously deferred from blood donation under donor eligibility guidance that was recently updated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Following new guidance issued by the FDA in July, ImpactLife has removed indefinite deferrals for 5126 potential donors who were previously deferred from blood donation due to travel or residence in the United Kingdom, France, or Ireland. The deferral was related to a theoretical risk of transmitting Cruetzfeldt-Jakob Disease (also known as Mad Cow Disease) to blood transfusion recipients. Promotion with National Forest Foundation plants a tree on behalf of every presenting donor through May 15 (April 20, 2022 | Davenport, Iowa) – The “Give Back and Go Green” program now underway with ImpactLife is on track to plant well over 10,000 trees. The blood provider is working with the National Forest Foundation to support reforestation by planting a tree on behalf of donors who come to give blood from March 21 through May 15.
